Boreal wilderness at Lakita Lodge — lakes and forest in Swedish Lapland
Our Commitment to Nature

Designed with care for the land,
its animals, its people
and the future.

Lakita Lodge is rooted in the belief that the nature surrounding us is not only the setting of the experience, but its very foundation. Our approach brings together low-impact construction, thoughtful resource use, local sourcing, care for wildlife and ecosystems, and long-term support for the people and community around us. Sustainability is not a separate promise; it is part of how we build, operate, guide, host and grow.

Our Sustainability Pillars

Our sustainability approach is built around six commitments that guide how we build, operate, source, host and grow.

01

Build with Care

From the design stage, Lakita Lodge has been shaped to reduce its environmental impact while blending naturally into the landscape. We prioritized natural and durable materials such as full-log structures, flax insulation and traditional grass roofs, helping the buildings feel anchored in their surroundings while limiting the use of high-impact materials such as concrete and plastics. Energy efficiency is also built into the lodge, including geothermal systems for underfloor heating and hot water.

02

Efficient by Design

Comfort and responsibility can go hand in hand. Our daily operations are designed to reduce unnecessary energy, water and material use through efficient systems, water-saving solutions, waste sorting and recycling, low-energy supplies. We also avoid single-use items wherever possible, use refillable dispensers and glass water bottles, reduce laundry through guest awareness, and work with set menus to limit food waste.

03

Rooted Locally

We source locally wherever possible, both to reduce transport impact and to support the regional economy. This applies to our food philosophy, our operational suppliers and the long-term partnerships we aim to build. From local producers and regional ingredients to Swedish and local contractors, our goal is to work with partners who share our expectations for quality, reliability and responsible practices.

04

Protecting the Living Landscape

The lodge is surrounded by more than 600 hectares of forest, wetlands and lakes — a living wilderness we feel responsible to preserve for generations to come. As a deliberately small-scale business, we aim to limit our footprint while offering guests a rare connection to the land. Our approach is based on careful use of the land, protection of habitats and respect for biodiversity. Activities are designed to limit disturbance, respect wildlife and help guests experience the landscape with awareness and care.

05

People and Community

Sustainability also means contributing positively to the place we are part of. Lakita Lodge is designed to create rural employment, support local businesses, build long-term supplier relationships and engage actively with the local community — from open dialogue with nearby residents to sharing our project with local schools and speaking about entrepreneurship. This same long-term approach guides how we build our team, through fair conditions, clear roles, good equipment, safety training and a positive, supportive workplace culture.

06

Always Improving

Our sustainability work follows a continuous improvement approach, designed to evolve with the lodge. We have concrete internal goals to guide our decisions and measure progress over time, while also working towards meaningful certifications such as Nature's Best and Green Key. Supported by a sustainability consultant specialized in high-end hospitality, these frameworks help us structure our efforts, challenge our practices and keep improving as we grow.

"The wilderness is not ours to own. It is ours to protect — so that those who come after us may feel what we feel today."
